Dishes and Dignity

Dishes and Dignity is more than just plates and pans—it’s about starting fresh with a sense of home. Many people arriving at the Cecil have no serviceable household items, making even the simplest meals a challenge.

We provide dishes, cookware, and essentials to those who need them, offering not just practical help but also a reminder that they matter. A set of dishes might seem small, but having something of your own—chosen with care and given with kindness—can make all the difference.

Friends of the Cecil Food Bank

The Friends of the Cecil Food Bank provides food for as many as 75 residents twice a month, thanks entirely to donations from generous community members. None of our food comes from government programs—just people helping people. We aim to provide healthy and nutritious options whenever possible, including fresh produce and shelf-stable essentials.

When available, we also provide hot, nourishing meals by working with local kitchens and nonprofits who share our commitment to feeding the community with dignity. Every meal shared is a reminder that no one is forgotten.

The Closet at the Cecil

The Closet at the Cecil is all about making sure residents have what they need to feel comfortable and cared for. From warm clothes and fresh bedding to personal care items, everything in our closet comes from generous folks who want to support their neighbors. Whether someone needs a clean shirt, a cozy blanket, or just the basics to get through the day, it’s here—no questions, no judgment, just kindness.

Every few months, we also host a Free Boutique, where we set up everything like a real store—no price tags, just choice. Residents can browse and pick out what they like, making the experience about dignity, not just necessity.

Community Meetings and Religious Services

Our monthly community meetings are a space for Cecil residents to come together, share concerns, and talk about issues that impact daily life. We also offer help with navigating programs and resources, along with one-on-one pastoral counseling for those who need support. But it’s not all serious—we take time to celebrate birthdays, milestones, and the small victories that matter.

During the holidays, we hold religious services in the Catholic tradition, open to everyone, no matter their background. Whether someone comes for guidance, connection, or just to be in community, these gatherings are about making sure no one has to face life’s challenges—or joys—alone.
